An on-screen clock. Turn it on in Settings under “Appearance”, where you also pick the corner — any of the four. The clock sits over the picture and disappears entirely as soon as the channel list, the menu or the bottom bar opens: a clock that slides aside on every press of the remote reads worse than no clock at all.
The interface is bigger: 115% by default. A television is watched from three or four metres away, and the old size did not suit everyone. Your own size is still chosen in Settings under “Accessibility”, and once chosen it stays.
Leaving the app now closes it completely. Before, the screen went away after “Exit” while the channel kept playing — the app stayed in memory and reopened by itself after a while. A recording in progress is finished before the exit instead of being cut off mid-file. And “No channel selected” no longer flashes on the way out.
The firmware’s navigation bar no longer creeps over the video. It was hidden before, but came back after the system installer or the box’s settings — now the app hides it again every time it returns to the screen. Leaving the app also mutes the sound: the channel is no longer heard from under someone else’s window.
The TV guide no longer freezes the app. It used to open its own window with a picture of the channel, and on some boxes that ended in a hang — the window is gone, the header keeps the logo and the name. The top edge of the list is fixed there too: scrolling the channels down used to leave a row sliced in half at the top, with the channel name cut through.
The screen for a channel that will not open has been redone. Instead of the player’s details it now shows a cloud, the line “No stream” and a spinner: until the channel opens, the app keeps trying to connect again every few seconds. OK, as before, retries at once.
The package is half the size — 63 megabytes instead of 114. It no longer carries libraries for architectures no box has: they ran nothing and only took up disk space and update time.
Channel names in the “Presentation” view are set in the same typeface as the panel on the left: the same channel looked different in the two views of the list.
